Who we are

Binaal Billa Family Violence Prevention Legal Service is based in Forbes, NSW. FVPLS’s are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation’s meaning they are led and operated by Aboriginal local people, ensuring services are provided in a culturally safe and appropriate manner.

The purpose of Binaal Billa is to address the legal concerns and facilitate non-legal wrap-around support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims and survivors of family violence and sexual assault within our service provision. Services are provided to assist all victims (survivors) of family violence including violence between adults within families, elder abuse, child abuse, violence by children against parents, between adult partners and be inclusive of same-sex relationships.

Binaal Billa’s services are provided in a holistic model where our clients and children are supported with advocacy, case management, court support, counselling services, advice, intervention and referral pathways. Binaal Billa provides outreach services to Parkes, Peak Hill, West Wyalong, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Murrin Bridge, Grenfell, Cowra, Young, Tottenham, Trundle and Tullamore.

Binaal Billa Family Violence Prevention Legal Service is funded by the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and overseen by Legal Aid to provide legal assistance, advice & advocacy to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander victims of family violence and/ or sexual assault. Yoorana Gunya Family Healing Centre Aboriginal Corporation is the auspice of Binaal Billa FVPLS.

Our Values

Binaal Billa recognises that our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are reluctant and do not often report family violence because of fear of losing their children, housing, fear of authorities, the surrounding stigma, shame and many more reasons. Binaal Billa’s mission is to erase this stigma and provide support, services, and community education to our outreach areas to assist our victims of family violence, their children and families. We work with our community to erase the stigma and shame, build resilience and ensure there are culturally appropriate and safe services.

Our Team

Binaal Billa has a dedicated team of professional staff to assist clients and all stakeholders ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims of family violence and sexual assault are supported in a culturally safe and trauma informed way. All staff are provided training opportunities to ensure they remain up to date with the accurate knowledge of the issues surrounding family, domestic violence and sexual assault.
