Binaal Billa Family Violence Prevention Legal Service has a team of professional community support workers, who are driven and passionate to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victim (survivors) of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault receive support through trauma informed holistic case management, which includes assistance with victims’ services compensation claims, court support, internal and external referrals to support services, advocacy, access to early intervention and prevention programs, community legal education, free legal advice and assistance with matters such as ADVO’s, family law, care and protection and parenting plans. Case management includes ongoing support to victims and their families under a case management model, incorporating trauma informed practices.

Legal Advice

Binaal Billa and Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre are working in partnership to ensure that quality legal services are being provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have experienced violence. Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre (CTBMCLC) is an independent not for profit organisation providing free legal advice to people in the Blue Mountains, Oberon, Lithgow, Bathurst and Orange regions. Lawyers from CTBMCLC visit the Binaal Billa office in Forbes during the first and third weeks of the month. Appointments with the lawyers can be made directly with the community support staff at the Binaal Billa office. The lawyers are able to provide face to face visits, phone advice can be provided. Binaal Billa staff will do an intake with clients to gain consent and pass on details to CTBMCLC. Legal advice and casework assistance is available in a range of areas including:

CTBMCLC and Binaal Billa work in a domestic violence and trauma informed way and are focussed on providing practical options to assist people to resolve their legal issues. 

If clients of Binaal Billa do not wish to book appointments with a community support worker, they have the option of having an appointment booked directly with the solicitors.
